Recent Art by Planet Gay

Presented to the Harem

An atmospheric image of a new arrival, anxiously appraising his new home and master. His new 'family' seem to be enjoying a candle-lit bath, unaware of the beautiful young man about to join them. Maybe it's not such a bad life after all.

United by Fate

It makes a nice picture, but I'm not quite sure what the logic is in chaining slaves up together like this, unless it's a frustration torment. But even in 'no hands' mode, they ought to be able to work something out eventually!

Musketeers

The three musketeers seems to be PG's current focus, and this image is a lift straight out of the 19th Century literature that inspired modern movies on the subject. The slightly sentimental staging, taking time out for a reunion, instead of focussing on getting the poor devil out, is very much of that era.

An all male version of 'La Bohème' might finish like this, with the distraught comrades in arms standing at a respectful distance while the fated lovers bid a final farewell.

In mitchmen land, the interpretation would be completely different, with the captive being told in no uncertain terms that he's there for the duration and that the guards have come to start his punishment. More Tosca than Bohème, in fact. Scarpia cutting out the middle woman and propositioning Cavardossi instead.

Games of Thrones

This variant on the slavery theme of the first image has a more edgy feel. The captive looks a lot more mature and his chain is held personally by the King, not a guard, implying a very personal interest.

The ostentatious wearing of a crown, coupled with the title, suggests politics is at the back of this situation, not domestic service. This prisoner is not a casual pick-up, a handsome man snatched from his usual job and pressed into the king's personal service. No, he is a defeated rival. A dangerous man to have in your bed, even if it is a very satisfying vengeance.

The dark, gothic decorating scheme here is a far cry from the splendour of picture 1 and bodes ill for conditions below stairs.

The Gladiators

The same theme is unexpectedly adapted to the Roman Arena here. Usually, beaten men meet their death here. End of. Still, you can't blame this victor for wanting to hang onto his hunky conquest. In the cruel way of this genre, he might well be one of his training buddies.

Unfortunately, the lack of wounds might arouse the suspicion that there's a conspiracy going on. Notice the queer look another Gladiator is giving them. He won't be happy at them getting off scot-free. No fear, if Caesar suspects there hasn't been enough foul play, it'll be thumbs down for both of them.

Love against the wind

The old beefcake books often included public statues of muscular men in their pages to underline their claim of artistic intent and legitimacy, back in the bad old days. They also drew on the ideas of classical Greece which furnished the idea of men being turned into stone as a punishment, sometimes with the possibility of being returned to fleshiness under the right conditions.

Planet Gay gives us not just a statue, but two men turned into a statue, preserving their love for all time against the headwinds of fate. Planet Gay's blogging often has a 'Pride' angle and you can see it in this imagery. But it's a double-edged sword. I'm not sure if this is symbolic of enduring strength - or defiant defeat, with the lovers neutralised and relegated to being an interesting 'feature' in a corner of a garden. I suppose it's better than ending up sitting alone on a horse in the middle of a roundabout.

Etienne's 'Car Wash' Reinterpreted

A Clean Slave Is A Happy Slave

A while ago, I posted Planet Gay's AI makeover of the desert trek scene from Etienne's 'Sailor Beware'. Here he recreates a scene from 'Car Wash' by the same artist.

In the original picture, signed by the artist, this scene was the middle section of a triptych of 3 related scenes which were joined together in a continuous panorama

Apart from renaming the image, Planet Gay's version stays pretty faithful to the original composition, but he's taken out the military flavour, which, to be fair, is only indicated in the original by the sergeant's stripes on the far right and three, not very obvious, dog tags (see if you can spot them!). The overall result is impressive but less spectacularly so than his Sailor Beware image, which benefitted from having a less complicated, easily reproducible setting, i.e. a sandy desert.

There also exists a colourised version, created by Hardtop (I believe). He added a figure at the right and left extremes to facilitate the creation of an animated, endlessly repeating sweep. The figure is derived from the operative in charge of the Body Scrub Station. I have to give him credit for a seamless alteration.

Etienne produced a coloured version himself. The original hangs in the Etienne Auditorium at the Leather Archives & Museum in Chicago. This is a segment from it, otherwise the sheer width defies easy inspection on a computer screen. You can see quite a lot of detail has been lost in the process.

You'll notice, that he has left out the two figures to the left, the men holding the mop and a stick device. Strictly speaking, it is correct to omit them. Those two figures actually belong to a different station, not 'Body Scrub'....

'Teeth Cleaning and Mouth Disinfecting' (clearly labelled as Station 2) is sandwiched in between the 'Rectal Flush' and 'Body Scrub' stations, which each have their own, eye-catching, restraint device. Arguably, Station 2 consists only of a single man with a toothbrush strapped to an irrigation device. The foreground figure with the mop might equally belong to Station 1 (see below), but it's tempting to imagine that disinfectant-soaked mop being thrust into the mouth of the unlucky client to his right!

In this framing, Mr Mop doesn't really seem to be very closely involved with Station 1. He and his pants-packing buddy seem to be waiting, quite impatiently, to get stuck into the next unfortunate on the processing line. Or perhaps he's just the cleaner, having a fag while he waits to clean up the mess left by the other guys. They are obviously having a lot of fun and taking their time!

You might be wondering at this point, if these are stations 1 and 2, surely there are two more stations on the right. Aren't there?

There are indeed two more stations to come, Station 3 - 'Body Scrub', which is the section re-imagined by Planet Gay, and the fourth station 'Lubrication' which presumably does have a number, but we can't see it, because it's hidden behind a tin of grease.

You'll notice also that this device is not slotted neatly into the line, it stands forward, slightly angled. The angling is justified by the artist's desire to clearly show what the operative's hand is doing, but there is a distinct sense of it being squeezed in (the image, I mean, not just the hand!).

By obscuring its number, Etienne seems to be deliberately adding to the confusion about the number of stations, but it is more likely that it was originally drawn as a separate image in its own right. It wouldn't have needed to be given a station number, then. Hence, the difference in style and inclusion of a supervisor. It might even have been the starting point for the whole idea.

If you look back at the wide, panoramic view at the top of this post, there is a distinct sense of it becoming increasingly crowded from left to right and the distinct impression that the last station has been shoe-horned into a limited space. It seems that Etienne was working to a fixed length and when it came to fitting the last piece into the jigsaw, the last Station, he hadn't allowed quite enough space for it. Giving it a number was probably the last thing on his mind.

Leaving not enough space or too much is a common mistake for an artist and an easy one to make, especially if your creative juices are driven by the fantasy, but in a commercial context, it may not be forgiven. In his 'History of Gay Art', Felix Falkon criticised Etienne's tendency to not plan or finish his images properly. Nevertheless, he seems to have successfully salvaged this piece, and you might argue that the final structure creatively reflects the viewer's increasing erotic tension as he traverses the scene from left to right. Etienne was a genius and a flawed masterpiece is far better than uninspiring correctness.

Enslaved Sailors by Planet Gay

PlanetGay - Enslaved Buddies

This image may look familiar to you, it's part of a select group showing desert kidnaps in distant lands where we fondly imagine enslavement of white men still flourishes. Examples at this blog are by BowenTacitusIskan156, Gilgamesh and most notably perhaps by Chirenon

In fact this picture is an AI reinvention of the slave delivery scene from Etienne's classic tale of Middle-Eastern misfortune 'Sailors Beware'. This particular story has had a lot of coverage at mitchmen blog recently thanks to the discovery of a little-known early draft of the story and a long-forgotten Royale storyette which probably inspired it: 'Shanghaied Sailor'.

AI gets a bad press in some quarters but there's no question of 'stealing' pictures here and the artist - PlanetGay- gives full credit to Etienne as it's inspiration. The new version is distinctly different from Etienne's original but it gives it a new lease of life. It's even preserved the distinctive, balletic stance of the brunet captive - a very Etienne-ian detail. The sexy, new characterisation of the kidnapped sailors makes one wish for some of the other scenes to be given the same treatment. If you compare the clothing of the evil abductor with Etienne's original, you might be surprised at what is revealed.

As ever with AI, some of the detailing is wide of the mark, like the unmilitary haircuts and goatees of the conscripts and the slanting oasis water (with surf?). That big city mosque parachuted into the middle of the desert to add atmosphere is clichéd as well as daft. Having said that, Etienne might easily have done the same thing in his time.

Planet Gay's bdsm Christmas

Planet Gay - Waiting For Christmas

I already expressed my admiration for the artwork produced by Planet Gay and the delicious hunks he's populated them with in several articles this year, but I couldn't resist making this image the centrepiece of my Christmas Day offering, which as usual is dedicated to anyone who is alone or who feels alone at this time of year when everyone else seems to be enjoying themselves.

I suppose this image of togetherness with a gay couple gazing out of a window at the winter wonderland might seem an odd choice in that context but gays don't have to be in a relationship to share such pleasures and you don't have to be in a relationship to appreciate the joy sharing brings. Besides, looking out for Santa's sleigh is a cute allusion to happy childhood memories.

For me, this is also a normalising image that gives gay men a legitimate place of their own in a festival that is resolutely 'family' oriented in our society (for 'family' read 'heterosexual'). Hence I've tagged this post with my 'Pride' label at the bottom.

If, on the other hand, you think this picture is far too slushy
and hardly in keeping with this blog's fetish credentials, well, read on.....

Planet Gay - Who's Not Been A Good Boy

It turns out the two young men are waiting for Santa to arrive and the light in the first picture signals the approach of his gift-laden sleigh. (It looks like Rudolph's nose has been upgraded up this year or else he's been replaced by a lighting system borrowed from a  Pop Festival). The fact that the pair seemed to have stripped off in readiness for Santa's arrival suggests they haven't put a train set or an Action Man at the top of their Christmas list.

We all know that boys who haven't been good during the year don't get a present from Santa. Unfortunately gay men have a talent for being naughty even if they do have skills with dressing and décor (witness the authentic Victorian chaise). I'm not sure whether getting spanked by Santa counts as a present or a punishment, but I'm glad to see the pink-cheeked recipient looks genuinely discomforted.

I suppose he'll be getting a consolation gift from Santa's sack afterwards - I'm talking about the one sitting on the floor of course, filled with nutritious fruits, nuts and gingerbread men. Yum!

Planet Gay - We Heard You Weren't a Good Boy

In this picture his partner already has his gingerbread man, so he may have been spanked already.
The roaring fire in the background could be a clue to the fiery heat that he's feeling.
Unfortunately the way Santa is weighing up his backside doesn't suggest he's finished with it yet.
Hence the telling look of dread on his face.

Perhaps the biscuit is a bribe to comfort him in readiness for
the blunt end of the chunky candy cane being brandished by the elvish assistant.

It's not clear whether the gym horse that the young man has been set astride is a piece of equipment the couple keep in their living room for daily exercises or has been brought along by Santa on the luggage rack of his sleigh for this express purpose.

Planet Gay - Vaxxi-Claus

It turns out the Santa gang is really a hit squad from the local vaccination centre.
I'd hazard a guess that this injection it's not for flu or covid.
Perhaps it's a precaution against the possible fall-out from his undisclosed naughtiness.
But it's also quite possible that Santa is sticking a needle in this man's bottom
because he likes sticking needles in the bottoms of cute men.
Who can blame him?

Captives, Pets and Partners by Planet Gay

Naked Captive suspended in a spider's web
Planet Gay - Vampire 1

These first two images by Planet Gay are an unusual take on the Vampire theme seeming to imply that the blood-sucking predator might have an alternative existence as a spider rather than the traditional bat. Trapped in his web the victim awaits his fate. The gleaming highlights on his (rather enticing) body suggest that it's either an unusually hot dungeon, perhaps thanks to all the candles (see below) or that he's overwhelmed with fearful thoughts.

Notice the cat-like beings in the background.

This image draws on two common themes from bondage photo art - suspension and spider's webs. The combination of the two in this case creates a compelling impression of captivity. The chain webs seen in bondage photos have the same potential but often seem to end up as simple spreader frames for a captive standing on the ground. With notable exceptions of course.

Planet Gay - Vampire 2

The victim, as you might expect from this artist, is a strikingly handsome young man. He courageously matches the Vampire's gaze (a dangerous thing to do if my memory serves me right). No doubt he's wondering whether his captor intends to torment him from the floor - perhaps using the candelabra - or whether he is going to morph into his spidery self to scale the web and one shudders to think what might happen after that. Spiders, you probably recall, liquefy their prey rather than sucking its blood.

This guy's entrapment is more in the nature of conventional bondage than the mysterious stickiness of the spider's web. However, there are echoes of spidery behaviour in the wrapping of his nether regions by the criss-crossing ropes, to create a sort of packed lunch. I suspect the protection and modesty they seem to provide may prove illusory, not least because the ropes bulge outwards at the point of convergence in a manner that suggests a considerable and enticing presence lurks behind them.

Notice that there are bats in this image instead of cats. This must be where the vamp keeps his pets.

Naked men on display swimming underwater in a giant fish bowl
Planet Gay - Art Exhibit

This imagery of two naked men on public display, swimming underwater in a giant fishbowl is equally expressive of pets and captivity although the artist here portrays it as an Art installation. They look like a pair but it's possible these men are complete strangers. Allowing them to have a companion to share this predicament mirrors what we do with goldfish. It's a somewhat perverse kindness. The viewers must be hoping it will evolve into physical intimacy if they hang around watching for long enough.

Presumably, these men did not volunteer for a lifetime in a goldfish bowl. On the face of it, the exhibits have the option of climbing out of it and jumping down, but it would not be a trivial undertaking getting up onto the rim and the drop is about 20 feet by my reckoning. I imagine the gentlemen enjoying their display might be inclined to grab them if they managed it.

This seems to be a museum-like place and as we know, museums are loath to surrender their treasures no matter how dubiously they have been obtained. So, I imagine there are warders around who might smell a rat if two dripping wet, naked men went padding by. Equally this exhibition might be commercial, a temporary event with the exhibits up for sale. These two can take heart from the fact that it would take a very, rich man to accommodate their particular piece of art so they might end up being returned to the river of life, unsold.

Man shot in backside by archer's arrow, piercing buttock, ripped shorts
Planet Gay - Cupid's Arrow

There are many ways of acquiring a man as a pet and this would be a highly convenient one if it existed outside of myth, not least because it comes with a guarantee of loyalty without any need for time-wasting, emotional input. I assume that 'cupid' here is shooting the target for himself but strictly speaking he is supposed to operate as an independent hitman selecting people at random who already know each other but are not smitten.

Cupid here is portrayed as a fully grown man rather than the usual baby-like cherub, which is just as well in this day and age. I'm not a fan of fancy dress in general but find his mini kilt rather fetching. It seems to have an enticingly loose fit around the waist. Mind you, this is a man who would look sexy dressed in a bin bag. I find the target's exploding shorts rather interesting too. His rather severe hairstyle suggests a catch with spirit.

Planet Gay Intoxications

This situation depicts one way of taming a spirited buck,
but it's led to the potential 'pet' being rendered incapable.

If this mentor is a romantic type, he'll still have a decent enough snuggle partner for the night
Maybe he'll get lucky tomorrow with a convergence of morning woods.

I've tried to come up with a simple, grammatical version of Planet Gay's strangled English but it's surprisingly difficult at this time in the morning!

Planet Gay - Bromance

The conventional way of acquiring a man makes a nice romantic picture here.
Ostensibly it's two military types relaxing by their camp fire at sunset.
One appears to be reflecting on the long, hard day just passed.
The other, I fancy, has a long hard night in mind.
Military men are good material for pets, they like being ordered around.

Planet Gay - Knight and Squire

It's hard enough to win devotion of a conventional nature in real life.
Rarer still to find a man willing to be kept on a chain, even in the first flush of infatuation.
I'd say this dreamy young man has become a pet here really, not a slave.
His master gets the pleasure of owning a handsome and affectionate man
But with that come considerable responsibilities to look after him.

There's a nice intergenerational flavour to this picture which just about keeps clear of legal pitfalls. It's something that can't be said for all of this artist's work, I've excluded some nice bondage images from his 'Party' series (below) because the captives look too young for comfort.

Planet Gay - Party 09

This image is beautifully romantic and would be more so if it were not set in the context of a military orgy whose state of chaos and drunkenness can be deduced from the figure standing on the piano in the background. The trumpeter's leather pants introduce a scent of S&M and highlights the mild sense of submission in the grape-eater's kneeling pose and the contrast between his total nudity and the feeder's relatively dressed state. The grapes are a classic symbol of drinking and drunkenness and in erotic art can be equally representative of sexual organs and lust.
This pet's eager look is beautiful artistry.

Planet Gay - Steam Punk Sauna

Another example of pet-like devotion.

The first flush of romance is a joyous, obsessive time when every minute must be shared. The chains of attachment forged by new love are stronger than anything you will find in a fetish and leather shop. The trouble is, this excitement doesn't last for ever, the intensity settles down and for some strange reason partners who demonstrate devotion and affection like this in public become inexplicably attractive to onlookers. Pets have minds of their own and may exhibit an independent streak, so a master cannot be complacent.

There are other categories of men, forbidden but irresistible for gays of a predatory nature - e.g. straight men, best friends, best friends of partners and bar men in gay venues. There's probably a biological explanation. Gene selection gone awry perhaps, although some will credit baser motives derived from envy and frustration.

Planet Gay - Party 06

When infatuation burns itself out and familiarity becomes a bit boring it's tempting to try out shared experiences. Usually there will be no shortage of volunteers in the gay community to help out, but it might be necessary to look a bit harder if you want to find an S&M master to dominate you both.

Here that innocuous pet lead improvised from a chain becomes an even stronger symbol of ownership and submissiveness. Immersed in this sensory experience jaded partners may find that their limits extended into realms they never dreamed of. Submissive pets may like it more than their masters who find themselves into wading into murky waters where they don't have the same level of aptitude and interest.

Planet Gay - Party 11

Sharing your pet with another dominator might seem an easier option. The proud owner and the pampered pet may both find this situation exciting at first, but a shared pet is likely to become confused about his loyalties. It may turn out he's been unwittingly gifted to a rival.

This image illustrates in a slightly comic fashion, which may be unintentional, how a 'guest master' may have very different ideas to the loving couple about what constitutes 'having fun'.

This scene pairs with the previous picture (Party 6) where it can be seen going on in the background.

~

These are great images by Planet Gay. Although I realise his art is computer assisted, I am in awe of his ability to populate his images with such gorgeous-looking men and love the light touch he brings to fetish flavoured imagery, producing sweet, well-crafted images of homoerotic intimacy.

Domination Art by Planet Gay

Planet Gay - Submission

Super Top is Planet Gay's S&M fantasy hero.
He dominates the cute young men who inhabit his idyllic world
 - and they love it!

This ruined chapel is a picturesque and romantic place to stumble across man.
He seems a likely catch, obligingly dressed only in underwear and boots.
Super Top takes him down and strikes a dominant pose.
But the bramble tattooed on his leg suggests he might scratch back!

Planet Gay - Captured

Super Top takes no chances.
He chains the captive's wrists together and leads him away.
Towards the setting sun - an ominous sign? or happy ending?

Super Top's outfit is quite unlike the skin-tight suits favoured by conventional superheroes,
it's more athletic and loose fitting - and shows more flesh!
Wearing his underpants as outer gear, however, is entirely authentic.
His haircut (or is it head tattoos?) create a dangerous, edgy impression

Planet Gay - Chained

He chains his captive up to a pillar and leaves him to ponder.
What torments does he have in store for him?

The brightly coloured flowers don't suggest anything sinister is going on,
although like much else here the plant does have a slightly spiky appearance
and it seems to be rambling towards the helpless captive.

Planet Gay - Super Top

When Super Top returns he's carrying another scantily-clad young man,
holding him aloft in the style of a wrestling victor.
Already the chains are in his hand read to make him a captive too.
Number 1 looks on helplessly at this latest display of power.

Planet Gay - I Like To Get To Know You

Super Top chains up his captives in intimate proximity to each other.
It seems he's turned into a super match-maker at this point.
Or is he simply preparing them to serve him together?
Both to be slaves to his every desire.

mitchmen editing note: I have altered the text in the speech bubble to try and make the English more natural without, I hope, altering the meaning. The enigmatic original says "So now the both of you can get to know you well", which is similar but slightly different to the title.

Planet Gay - The Kiss of Fate

The captives adjust pragmatically to their shared predicament.
This sudden friendship a distraction from the threat of captivity.

I'm not sure why it is described rather portentously as 'The Kiss of Fate'
unless it means they were fated to fall in love.

Planet Gay - The Winner (Victor?)

Super Top shows them that his altruism doesn't run to treating slaves as equals.
They must kneel at his feet in appropriate subservience.
It seems the newer one has already learned how to please him.
Super Top's underpants swell in response to his touch.

The sun ray pattern on the victor's top is unusual and unexpectedly body flattering.
It may be inspired by the flag of Japan.

This dramatic image with it's vivid, lightening-split backdrop
seems to hark back to those gay liberation images of the seventies,
which in turn seemed to be inspired by the hero art of Boris Vallejo and his like.
Those images which celebrated freedom and heralded a new dawn for gay men
don't seem entirely irrelevant today.

Enslavement Art by Planet Gay

In the Underworld, a raiding party has abducted a group of young men
from a local settlement, intending to sell them into slavery in the city.
Amongst them is Jake, an apprentice blacksmith, caught while making a delivery.
Forced to wear an iron collar and shackles, he trails the others disconsolately.

Unknown to Jake, some friends who witnessed his abduction
have followed the slavers, aiming to infiltrate the city and free him.
Luckily one of them knows a trick for getting past the guards.

The three captives are offered up for sale in the bustling market hall.
Jake is brought to the front, the first to be sold
To the delight of the slavers, the King's representative is present
having heard good reports about the latest catch.
He scrutinises Jake closely as the auctioneer extols his virtues.
Bidding is lively

While the Auction proceeds, the vibrant life of the Market goes on around them.
Jake spots the blacksmith, his mentor, is there at the back and tries to catch his eye
But he seems more interested in watching two young men who are having a fight.

Naturally, no-one can outbid the King's man, Jake is sold.
As he hands over the money the purchaser eyes him greedily.

Jakes friends arrive just in time to see him being led away towards the citadel
Two have allowed themselves to be chained by their guide, pretending to be captives.
They don't realise that they have been tricked.
They too will take their place on the auction block.

The grim reality of enslavement in this city has already engulfed Jake.
Stripped completely naked after the auction he is clapped in freshly made irons
and chained together with two other unfortunates who found favour .
They are led into an enormous, soaring hall under the lustful eyes of watchful guards.

In the distance they can all see a figure seated on a massively elaborate throne

Jake suddenly realises that they are being taken into the presence of Anubis.
He is the Great Lord of the Underworld and pitiless judger of the dead.
Jake never believed he really existed until now.
But he is still alive, what can Anubis want with him?

Ahead of them another young man has already been forced to grovel
before the jackal headed deity at the point of a spear.

The judgement of Anubis consigns him to purgatory.
Awaiting his turn behind him, Jake trembles.

~

The artist behind Planet Gay has a refreshingly crisp style, populating his images with young men who look sexy and modern. I'm not usually drawn to 'costume' scenarios but his kilted guards look good and their dispassionate, knowing demeanour as custodians of the bewildered prisoners works well. He exploits the power of rendering to place the action of this piece in amazing settings reminiscent of the old Hollywood epics, but has the good sense to not let that grandeur overwhelm the story nor the attractions of the young men men who are the point of it. Jake's underwear makes an intriguing link between this fantasy world and real life.

I have fleshed out (and probably distorted) the storyline suggested in these images and their captions, intending to give it a little more characterisation and drama, but the pictures are unaltered and can speak for themselves.
